This is not a universal song. Any form of sexual harassment, abuse, and assault can happen regardless of gender. It is a traumatic event that too many people experience and go through as a result of individuals who do not respect boundaries, who do not care about how they feel, and who may not have done it yet allowed for it to occur as a result of inaction, for not believing them, for blaming them for what was not in their control to prevent.

This is, however, as the title suggests, a hypothetical scenario with an unfortunate ending. You may feel a range of emotions as you listen to this, and I encourage you to seek out local resources if this triggers you in any way. I also encourage you to reflect on why it is this song made you feel this way. Is it for the way the song vilifies certain individuals, for portraying a gruesome picture, or for speaking for something which I did not experience to an extent?

This kind of reflection is valid, necessary, and encouraged. Please think about it. Please call me out. This is not meant to be a "correct" song. This is meant to be a catalyst for analytical thought.

And for the those who do not get the memo: BELIEVE! SURVIVORS!

lyrics

She's breaking from the inside
The venom of the society courses through
Can't make it through the next night
Out of fear that he will come again to rape her

Keeping all the blinds drawn
Protruding out the side of her pants a handgun
It's a shame that she must defend herself
From the world that sees her as his trigger

It's such a shame that she must defend herself
From the world that sees her as his trigger

By the door she hears a loud knock
The man with a fully loaded .45
She scrams to dial 911
As he fires the gun through the stain glass window

She locks herself in the bathroom
Tells herself this'll all be over soon
The man breaks down the door and he falls
As her bullet penetrates his skull

She's just an innocent victim
With no need for abuse
And we just let it happen
We're all guilty of gaslighting her truth

We are the venom of society that perpetrates this circle of abuse
We stay complacent in our skin and do not empathize with those who tell the truth

I don’t care how you compartmentalize it it’s a matter of time before you breakdown
You wanna argue go right ahead let others continue to suffer in the background
Doesn’t sound so good doesn’t it
You could have done something about it
And maybe she wouldn’t have to take these matters into her own hands!

We are the venom of society that perpetrates this circle of abuse
We stay complacent in our skin and do not empathize
With
Those
Who
Tell
With those who tell the truth!
